Heavy Rains in Afghanistan Cause Dozens of Deaths, Injuries
Spokesperson Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad said that heavy rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes in several provinces, including Parwan, Daykundi, Wardak, and Logar.
The floods have caused extensive damage, destroying 147 homes, washing away 80 kilometers of roads, and flooding 582 acres of farmland, in addition to damaging 31 water canals and irrigation networks in the affected regions.
Hammad emphasized that these figures are preliminary and that assessment teams are still surveying the impacted areas. He warned that casualty numbers could rise as more information becomes available.
Meteorological authorities in Afghanistan have issued new alerts forecasting continued rainfall, increasing the risk of further flooding, particularly in mountainous and vulnerable zones, as stated by reports.
